Cumulus Rainbow

Our notes

After making a few of our own projects with this thread, here's what we've found:

Buttery soft and light: Cumulus is exceptionally soft for a cotton yarn, and feels light and airy in the hand as you work with it.

Easier on the hands: This isn't nearly as hard on the hands or fatiguing to work with as most of the other cottons we've tried. It does still dry your skin out a little though, since cotton is cotton.

Works best on metal needles: Unless you knit on the loose side, you'll probably want to use metal needles. Bamboo or other wood tools may grip the yarn too much to be comfortable, especially if you have tighter tension.

Far less splitty than expected: Because of the chainette construction, Cumulus isn't nearly as splitty as we thought it would be. It's still possible to stick a needle or hook through the center of the yarn, and Stephanie occasionally grabbed fiber loops from previous stitches, but it doesn't take any particular attention to detail to avoid splitting it. Sharper needles will split the fibers more often than blunter ones.

A bit sheddy: We found that with all the colorways of Cumulus, little stray cotton fluffs tend to get shed over time. Stephanie found this happened most where the yarn passed through her fingers on her tensioning hand. That being said, it's easy to rub the fluffs into a little ball and clean it up. Crafters who work with tighter tension or who frequently frog their projects will likely notice Cumulus pilling a bit.
