Lizbeth is a high quality thread specifically designed for tatting, made from 100% cotton as a 6-cord cordonnet. It's super-combed and mercerized for outstanding body and picots that hold their shape. The color of each ball is uniform without any white spots or uneven dye.
Please order all the thread you need for your project at the same time, since we can't guarantee color consistency across different dye lots.
Our notes
After making a few of our own projects with this thread, here's what we've found:
Excellent stitch definition: Lizbeth thread always has fantastic stitch definition, especially when compared to looser-spun 3-ply crochet cotton.
Blocks well: Blocking will help nearly any tatted piece, and you can often fudge imperfect picots or rings with a bit of strategic blocking. You can also re-block pieces as needed with clean water.
Be careful when picking out stitches: Mercerized cotton (and cotton in general) doesn't hold up well to being manipulated too much. Thread will abrade quickly, so don't expect thread that you've tatted, un-tatted, and re-tatted to look as clean and smooth as fresh thread. Thread is cheap. Your time is not. Don't sweat it.
May have knots: Because cotton is a natural fiber, thread balls may have knots in them. Carefully pick out the knots or just cut them out, then join your thread like you would usually do when adding new thread.
Care may vary: For most fully tatted pieces such as snowflakes, doilies, and earrings, simply soak the piece for a bit to fully saturate it. Poke it a little if needed; you want to soak it until air bubbles stop coming out of the piece. Get a clean towel or napkin in a color that won't bleed into your thread, and lay your tatting flat to dry to block it. For embellishments such as collar trim or flower accents, make sure the tatting is securely tacked to the base, then follow the washing instructions for the base. Please note that thread colors, particularly vibrant ones, may bleed. Perform tests with small samples first if needed.

Please note: Certain colors may bleed, especially dark colors and vibrant ones. Always make a test swatch and block it, if you’re concerned about color bleeding. To help reduce bleeding, block with cold water, use color catching sheets in the water, only use one color, or stay away from high-contrast colorwork.
