Cardo is an heirloom-grade yarn spun from 100% Corriedale wool. Its smooth texture, traditional spin, and resilient hand bring a touch of old-fashioned robustness to any project. It works up quickly, has pristine stitch definition, and is guaranteed to be warm and cozy.

All of Manos del Uruguay yarns are hand dyed. The artisans use big kettles heated by wood-fueled boilers, dyeing in small batches creating wonderful colors. The colors of Manos yarns are bright and wild, full of nuances and variations. No two skeins are the same, each one is unique, a testimony of a particular moment.

Due to the small batch hand-dyed process, there may be differences in colors between skeins. Order enough yarn for your project for a better likelihood that skeins will match. Alternate skeins where needed.

All Manos del Uruguay yarns are mulesing-free.

Our notes

After making a few of our own projects with this yarn, here's what we've found:

Robust structure: This is a very round, robust yarn that doesn't flatten out and is an even thickness throughout the whole skein. It works up very fast due to its bulky weight, and isn't splitty at all.

Always block your swatch: Certain colors may bleed, especially dark colors and red tones. Always make a test swatch and block it, if you're concerned about color bleeding. To help reduce bleeding, block with cold water, use color catching sheets in the water, only use one color, or stay away from high-contrast colorwork like with Natural and Brick.

Stitch definition: We love how this yarn looks when worked up. The stitch definition is fantastic, and it'll be perfect for cabled sweaters.

Warm and dense: The recommended needles and hooks make for a nice, dense fabric that isn't too stiff and still has some light drape. The fabric is warm, but still has enough flexibility that it'll be comfortable to wear as a sweater.
