Marina

Marina’s softness and drape feel wonderful next to the skin in scarves or shawls. It comes in tonal and space-dyed colorways and is made of superwash merino, which gives the colors beautiful depth. With 874 yards per skein, most projects only need one!

All of Manos del Uruguay yarns are hand dyed. The artisans use big kettles heated by wood-fueled boilers, dyeing in small batches creating wonderful colors. The colors of Manos yarns are bright and wild, full of nuances and variations. No two skeins are the same, each one is unique, a testimony of a particular moment.

Due to the small batch hand-dyed process, there may be differences in colors between skeins. Order enough yarn for your project for a better likelihood that skeins will match. Alternate skeins where needed.

All Manos del Uruguay yarns are mulesing-free.

Our notes

After making a few of our own projects with this yarn, here's what we've found:

Lovely drape and stitch definition: When worked up as lace or even plain stockinette, Marina drapes beautifully. The colors are just as vibrant as the rest of Manos del Uruguay's lineup, and the single-ply construction lends excellent stitch definition to your pieces no matter how you make them.

Use good light and maybe some magnification: Thin yarns like this, particularly in darker and more saturated colorways, will be much easier to work with in good lighting. Use some magnification for even better results, just be careful with magnifiers in natural sunlight.

Generous yardage: Lace weight yarns have even more yardage/meters per skein than fingering weight, and all of our swatchers felt like they hadn't even made dents in their sample cakes by the time they finished testing the yarn.

Dye colors affect feel: Silke noticed a significant difference between Log Cabin and Vesuvio when swatching the two colorways. Log Cabin was softer and noticeably easier to work with, for both knitting and crochet. She found both colorways were easier to knit than crochet, especially with small needles and hooks.

Can be splitty: With specific stitches, techniques, or styles, it's possible for Marina to be on the splitty side.
