Take your weaving on the go or use this pocket-size loom to make swatches and samples for large projects, or even patches for visible mending. This convenient, travel-friendly loom kit can make pieces up to 7" x 7" (17.5cm x 17.5cm) and comes with several accessories to streamline your weaving experience.
The frame of the loom has diagonal cross bracing to limit how much the loom deforms while warped and under tension. Raised beams next to each set of warp notches help even out the warp and give you just a little more room to work. A pair of V-shaped notches on either side of the loom grab on to each end of your warp yarn and keep it secure while you're working.
The included rigid heddle roller is set up for basic plain weave, and it's simple to change the shed by rocking the roller toward and away from you as you weave. Small bumps built into the loom frame keep the heddle roller securely in position on either end of the warp. The ends of the heddle roller have small handles to make it easy to grip while changing the shed, and the roller itself is labeled with the dent size so you know which roller goes with which loom frame. You can also weave without using the heddle roller, for example if you want to do twill or other patterns.
To pack down each row of weaving, use the matching comb, also labeled with its dent size. The large, sturdy handle makes the comb easy to grip, push, and pull as needed.
The loom kit also comes with a long needle that has a large eye and a blunt tip, just the right size to thread your weft yarn through the warp. It's slightly flexible to help you get your overs and unders in the right order. It also has a shallow line etched into it to use as a guide when placing your warp yarn before packing it down with the comb.
If you prefer a shuttle, the kit includes a sturdy stick shuttle that has room for plenty of yarn. The shuttle is marked on one side as a ruler, in both inches and centimeters.
For warp yarn, we recommend Aunt Lydia's Classic 10 crochet cotton. You can use up to a 1-Super Fine or Fingering/Sock weight yarn, but you'll get the best results with crochet cotton as the warp.
For weft, use any yarn up to a 1-Super Fine or Fingering/Sock weight. The sample in the product photo was done in a sock weight wool blend yarn for the warp and size 10 crochet cotton for the weft.
