Please note: the WooLee Winder flyer is not included.
Expand your bobbin collection easily with this custom designed 3D printed bobbin made specifically for your spinning wheel using a WooLee Winder flyer system. Whether you're spinning fine laceweight or bulky art yarn, this durable bobbin offers smooth, consistent performance with a modern twist. It's perfectly sized to fit the WooLee Winder for the models listed in the product options, and matches both the dimensions and weight of the wooden bobbins.
These bobbins also have a clever keyhole system that catches a knot on the end of your leader yarn and locks it in place as you begin spinning. Each bobbin has two keyholes, one on each side, to suit all spinning preferences.
Due to the difference in materials, these 3D printed bobbins may require much less tension than wooden bobbins; the exact difference may vary depending on the material of your brake band. Looser tensions may also introduce vibrations in the springs, so if you get any rattling, just check the alignment of the brake band, and wrap some loose fiber around the spring to dampen it. You can also run a graphite pencil around the brake band groove on the bobbin every so often as a sort of lubricant, if you want to use more tension. You can also switch to a cotton brake band.
The bobbins ship disassembled, and thread together easily. These threads fit tightly and securely and shouldn't slip while spinning, but you can easily put a drop of cyanoacrylate superglue on the threads before assembly if desired.
Please note that my logo and branding information is located on the outer side of the bottom of the bobbin. If you would like your own logo, a convention logo, or other design debossed into the bobbin, please message me for details.
These bobbins are printed in high quality, eco-friendly, industrially compostable PLA plastic. Please remove all fiber before composting.
If you would like to buy the STL file to 3D print your own bobbins, you can do that here.

They arrived!
(Actual WW bobbin in photo, for comparison)
I saved $1 each by choosing, “not picky” for the color and got fun gold and blue combinations. To get free shipping I ordered three of them. Plus there was a nice “welcome” discount code.
Weight is comparable; the authentic Woolee Winder bobbin is 93g, the Starfish Fibers bobbin is 88g.
I really like the leader keyhole mechanism in the bobbin core. Plus the core is not as slippery as the real Woolee Winder.
Spins fine in the flyer. And three of them fit nicely in a 1qt ziploc bag in the little interior pouch of the Joy backpack.
Note: I am not affiliated in any way with the vendor who sold me these; I have just always wanted “flat pack” style bobbins for my Joy Woolee Winder and was excited to stumble across these.
I had always been sad Akerworks never offered bobbins to fit the Joy WW. …and now that Akerworks is out of the fiber business, I wonder if we might be able to get other WW bobbins from here? (Hint, hint… Matchless WW bobbins, maybe? 😁)
